A unique pendant made from a raw piece of citrine (originating from Brazil) and 999 silver. It was entirely handcrafted using the labor-intensive wire wrapping technique. The silver is oxidized and carefully polished. The pendant is suspended on a 925 silver rolo chain, at the end of which a faceted citrine bead is attached.
Citrine, a captivating variety of quartz, is cherished for its vibrant yellow to orange hues, reminiscent of the sun. Its name is derived from the French word ‘citron’, meaning lemon, aptly describing its lemon-yellow coloration. This gemstone has been valued since ancient times, with its usage dating back to Greek and Roman civilizations where it was used in stunning jewelry and intaglio work. Citrine is found in various parts of the world, with substantial deposits in Brazil, Spain, Madagascar, and Russia.
Historically, citrine was revered not only for its beauty but also for its believed mystical properties. It was often worn as a talisman against snake venom and evil thoughts in ancient times. In the Victorian era, citrine became popular in Scotland, where it was used in kilt pins and shoulder brooches, reflecting its historical significance in European fashion. The Art Deco period saw a resurgence in the popularity of citrine jewelry, with large faceted citrines being set into many distinguished pieces.
Citrine jewelry, known for its warm, sunny colors, has long been sought after for its ability to add a touch of brightness and sophistication to any outfit. Citrine pendants, in particular, make striking statement pieces, often featuring large, eye-catching cuts that highlight the stone’s clarity and vibrant color. The versatility of citrine allows it to be beautifully incorporated into various styles of jewelry, from vintage pieces to more modern, minimalist designs.
An interesting fact about citrine is its rarity in its natural form. Much of the citrine on the market is actually heat-treated amethyst or smoky quartz, which turns a similar yellow color upon heating. However, natural citrine, especially of a high quality and deep color, is highly prized among collectors and jewelry enthusiasts. With its sunny disposition and fascinating history, citrine continues to be a beloved gemstone in the world of fine jewelry.
