I created this pendant from an exceptionally beautiful moonstone in the shape of a faceted triangle, which I wrapped in intricate weaves of oxidized and polished silver. The piece was entirely handmade using the wire wrapping technique. A very labor-intensive and unique design.

The pendant is suspended on a silver (925) rolo chain. At the end of the extension chain, there is an 8 mm diameter round labradorite cabochon set in silver. The entire piece is oxidized and carefully polished.

Moonstone, a gemstone steeped in mystery and allure, is cherished for its captivating play of light, known as adularescence, which creates a depth and glow reminiscent of the moon’s surface. This phenomenon is the result of its unique internal structure, where layers of orthoclase and albite feldspar scatter light to produce the enchanting blue or white sheen it’s famed for. Originating from locales as diverse as Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar, and the United States, moonstone’s history is rich, with its use in jewelry dating back to ancient civilizations that revered it for its ethereal beauty and supposed mystical properties.

Moonstone jewelry holds a special place in the realm of adornments, offering a blend of elegance and mystique that is unparalleled. Its popularity surged during the Art Nouveau period, when designers sought to capture the natural world’s beauty in their creations, making moonstone a favorite for its soft, natural glow. The versatility of moonstone, with colors ranging from the classic silvery blue to peach, gray, and even rainbow, makes it a sought-after material for designers, who craft everything from intricate moonstone pendants to simple, elegant earrings and rings.

A moonstone pendant is particularly cherished among enthusiasts, often serving as a statement piece that showcases the gem’s mesmerizing qualities. These pendants, along with other moonstone jewelry, are not only beautiful but are also believed to carry calming and healing properties, providing peace and balance to those who wear them. The subtle, yet striking appearance of moonstone enhances any outfit, making it a staple in jewelry collections. Whether set in silver or gold, moonstone jewelry captures the imagination, linking wearers to the ancient world while remaining a timeless choice for modern fashion.

Labradorite, a mesmerizing gemstone known for its spectacular play of colors, originates from Labrador, Canada, where it was first discovered in the 18th century. This captivating stone displays a phenomenon known as labradorescence, which causes it to shimmer in iridescent blues, greens, and golds, mimicking the northern lights. Its unique appearance has fascinated jewelers and gem enthusiasts alike, making labradorite a popular choice for those seeking a touch of the extraordinary. Beyond Canada, significant deposits of labradorite have been found in Norway, Finland, and Madagascar, contributing to its global appeal and availability in the gem market.

Labradorite jewelry is celebrated for its ability to catch the eye and add a mystical element to any ensemble. Designers often favor labradorite for its versatility and the way its colors shift and change when viewed from different angles. A labradorite pendant, in particular, can serve as a stunning centerpiece, showcasing the stone’s full spectrum of colors and making a bold statement. The allure of labradorite goes beyond its visual appeal, as it is also believed to possess protective and healing properties, adding a deeper significance to the beauty it brings to jewelry pieces.
